VANCOUVER, British Columbia, January 21, 2026 — LawDroid, the justice tech company powering AI solutions for legal aid, courts, and government, today announced that Sateesh Nori has joined the company as its first Chief Legal Futurist—the first-of-its-kind role in the legal aid and access to justice space. In this newly created position, he’ll lead the exploration of how AI and other transformative technologies can shape the delivery of legal services, making justice more accessible for everyone. Concurrently, Nori serves as a Senior Research Fellow in AI and Access to Justice at New York University School of Law’s Center on Civil Justice, enabling him to apply his research to real-world experiences.
Tom Martin, LawDroid Founder & CEO, first met Nori when he was honored as the winner of the Technology category of the 2022 American Legal Technology Awards for his work with JustFix. Since that time, Nori and Martin have appeared on several podcasts together, and recently, the pair co-created Depositron, an app that helps NYC tenants recover potentially over $100,000,000 in security deposits by empowering renters with automated, professional demand letters to landlords.
“Sateesh brings a practical vision for how technology can make a real difference,” said Martin. “From our first collaboration, it was clear he’s focused on outcomes, not hype. As Chief Legal Futurist, he’ll help drive meaningful innovation, and I’m excited to have him shaping the future of access to justice at LawDroid.”
Nori brings over 20 years of experience as a legal aid attorney, law professor, author, and legal technologist to the role, having worked on the front lines of housing justice in New York City. As Chief Legal Futurist, Nori will play a key role in thought leadership, research, and public dialogue around the responsible use of AI in legal services—connecting the benefits of serving more people, more effectively, amid rising demand and constrained resources.
“I am honored to step into the role of Chief Legal Futurist at LawDroid, at a moment when artificial intelligence is rapidly reshaping how legal help is delivered, ” stated Nori. “I am deeply grateful to Tom Martin for his trust, leadership, and shared commitment to building tools that expand access to justice while strengthening the legal profession.”
Nori’s appointment comes at a time when unmet civil legal needs remain staggering. According to the Legal Services Corporation’s Justice Gap Report, the vast majority of low-income Americans receive little or no legal help for their civil legal problems, underscoring the need for scalable, technology-enabled solutions.
He previously held positions as Senior Legal Innovation Strategist at Just-Tech, Executive Director at JustFix, Managing Attorney at The Legal Aid Society of NYC’s Queens office, Adjunct Professor at NYU Law, and Director of Housing Litigation at Bedford Stuyvesant Community Legal Services.
Nori is the author of “Sheltered: Twenty Years in Housing Court,” with two more books coming in 2026: “The Augmented Lawyer” (ABA) and “AI and Legal Ethics” (LexisNexis). He is an ABA Legal Rebel, serves on the Legal Services Corporation’s Leaders Council, and is well-known for his blog, The Augmented Lawyer, and speaking at various legal and justice-focused conferences. He holds a Juris Doctor from New York University School of Law and a bachelor’s degree in political science and government from The Johns Hopkins University.
