VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Nov. 2, 2026 — LawDroid today announced that it has joined the Justice Technology Association (JTA) as a Mission-Aligned Organization (MAO), strengthening its commitment to supporting justice technology innovators, fostering collaboration, and expanding access to justice through technology.
The Justice Technology Association is a volunteer-led nonprofit dedicated to democratizing the legal experience through technology for the public good. JTA brings together mission-driven entrepreneurs, technology companies, advocates, and other organizations working to make legal services and resources more accessible, affordable, and equitable. Through its growing network, JTA supports justice technology startups, encourages responsible innovation, and helps build the partnerships needed to address the access-to-justice crisis.
For LawDroid, joining JTA reflects a belief that closing the justice gap requires more than developing technology within any one organization. It requires investing in the people, ideas, and partnerships that can move the entire access-to-justice community forward.
“Nobody closes the justice gap alone. For more than a decade, we’ve seen what’s possible when legal aid organizations, courts, and technologists build together. Joining the Justice Technology Association lets us invest in that community more directly. We want to share what we’ve learned, support the next wave of justice tech founders, and help good ideas reach the people who need them most.” –Tom Martin, CEO & Founder of LawDroid
For more than a decade, LawDroid has developed technology to help legal aid organizations, courts, and government agencies serve more people with limited resources. Its work includes AI-powered legal information assistants, client intake, document automation, and other tools designed to help people navigate legal problems and connect with meaningful assistance.
But LawDroid’s commitment extends beyond the technology it develops for its clients. The company has increasingly focused on initiatives that encourage experimentation, share knowledge, and make innovation more accessible to others working in access to justice.
Earlier this year, LawDroid launched the free, open-source Legal Aid Plugin, bringing advanced AI capabilities to civil legal aid organizations and other public-interest providers. In April, the LawDroid AI Conference brought together justice advocates, technologists, and legal professionals around the theme of “The Year to Build.” More recently, LawDroid launched its global, virtual Hackathon in partnership with Lagniappe Law Lab and the Legal Services National Technology Assistance Project (LSNTAP), inviting people working closest to the justice gap to turn their ideas into open-source tools.
Tom Martin has also collaborated with Scheree Gilchrist, CIO at Legal Aid of North Carolina, on A2JRAG, research exploring how AI-powered legal information systems can provide guidance that is not only accurate, but also relevant to a person’s circumstances and stage in the legal process.
These efforts share a common purpose: making it easier for the access-to-justice community to learn from one another, experiment with new approaches, and build upon work already underway.
Through its partnership with JTA, LawDroid hopes to contribute to that effort by sharing its experience, supporting emerging justice technology entrepreneurs, and exploring opportunities for mentoring, training, and collaboration across the JTA network.
“I’ve followed Tom’s work with LawDroid for years and have always appreciated the company’s commitment to using technology to expand access to justice. LawDroid recognizes the importance of sharing expertise, supporting fellow innovators, and strengthening the broader justice tech ecosystem. Fostering that kind of collaboration is central to JTA’s mission, and we’re delighted to welcome them to our community.” –Maya Markovich, Executive Director of the Justice Technology Association
JTA’s vision of legal inclusion centers on ensuring that people can access useful, affordable legal products and services delivered responsibly and sustainably. That vision closely aligns with LawDroid’s work to help organizations expand their reach while making legal information and assistance easier to access.
The partnership also reflects a broader recognition that the access-to-justice crisis cannot be solved by any single company, organization, or technology. Progress depends on a community willing to share what works, learn from what doesn’t, and support one another in developing solutions that can reach more people.
By joining JTA, LawDroid is helping strengthen that community and contributing to a shared effort to make the justice system more accessible, equitable, and responsive to the people it serves.
