Leading attorney, mediator, educator, and legal innovation thought leader joins Descrybe.

BOSTON, Sept. 15, 2026 — Descrybe, the legal research and intelligence platform for people and AI systems, today announced that Susan E. Guthrie has joined the company as a strategic advisor.

Guthrie brings more than 35 years of experience as an attorney, mediator, educator, and legal innovator, along with a career focused on helping legal and dispute resolution professionals navigate change. A past chair of the American Bar Association Section of Dispute Resolution, she has trained more than 25,000 professionals and is a four-time Amazon bestselling author. She is the creator and host of Divorce & Beyond, a top 1% podcast globally, and host of The Practice Playbook Podcast. Her podcasts have generated more than three million downloads, and she was recently featured as an expert guest on The Oprah Podcast.

“Susan has spent her career seeing change coming and then helping legal professionals actually navigate it,” said Kara Peterson, CEO and Co-Founder of Descrybe. “That matters enormously right now. AI is changing where and how legal work gets done, and Descrybe is building the legal intelligence layer for that new environment. Susan understands both the technology shift and the human side of adoption, and that combination is incredibly valuable to us.”

Guthrie joins Descrybe at a pivotal moment for the legal profession, as generative AI moves rapidly from experimentation into everyday professional workflows. Descrybe is building the legal intelligence layer for that shift, combining structured U.S. primary law with citation, subsequent treatment, issue, and source intelligence to help people and AI systems research legal questions, analyze authority, understand how the law fits together, verify sources, and identify unsupported claims.

“The question is no longer whether AI will change legal practice. It already has,” said Guthrie. “What matters now is giving legal professionals access to reliable legal intelligence they can use confidently and responsibly. Descrybe is doing something especially important by bringing that intelligence directly into the AI tools where professionals are increasingly working, while making sophisticated legal research accessible well beyond the largest firms and institutions. I’m delighted to join Kara, Rich, and the Descrybe team as they help shape what comes next.”

Descrybe can be used directly through the Descrybe Platform, through Descrybe Legal Engine in leading AI assistants including ChatGPT, Claude, Microsoft 365 Copilot Cowork, and Perplexity, or through the Descrybe Open Connector, which brings its legal research and intelligence capabilities into custom AI tools and workflows. Its technology helps users research legal questions, assess which authorities matter, review subsequent treatment, check citations and quotations, verify source material, and surface unsupported claims.

Founded in 2023, Descrybe has grown from a bootstrapped startup into a category-shaping legal technology company, serving thousands of users while helping redefine how legal intelligence is accessed, delivered, and built into the AI tools people use.
