New featureset learns a firm’s objection and response strategy from work it has already served — then reapplies it automatically whenever a matching request appears, on any matter

San Francisco, California | July 13, 2026 Briefpoint, the discovery automation platform used by more than 1,000 law firms across all 50 states, today announced Discovery Playbooks, a discovery response governance feature set that captures a firm’s best objections and response strategy and brings them back automatically – where litigators need them, when they need them.

Litigators answer the same discovery requests over and over: the same form interrogatories in every auto case, the same document demands from the same opposing counsel, the same objections a firm has served hundreds of times. Yet each new response set typically starts from scratch, with drafters digging through old work product and copy-pasting from prior matters – or improvising and drifting from the firm’s positions.

Discovery Playbooks eliminates that entire workflow. Attorneys respond to discovery in Briefpoint exactly as they always have. When a response is completed, a single click adds it to the firm’s playbook – no data entry or configuration required. From then on, whenever Briefpoint detects a request the firm has already answered, it links the request to the saved playbook item and reapplies the firm’s objections and response strategy automatically.

“Your best discovery response shouldn’t be trapped in a file from 2023,” said Nathan Walter, CEO and co-founder of Briefpoint. “Every firm already has winning objection language – the problem is that it lives in old documents and senior lawyers’ heads. Playbooks turns that tribal knowledge into firm policy. You do the work once, and Briefpoint makes sure it shows up every time it’s relevant, for every litigator, on every matter.”

One featureset, three use cases. Because playbook entries can be scoped firm-wide or to a specific client, jurisdiction, or case type, firms across the bar use Playbooks differently:

Defense firms enforce consistent objection strategy across high-volume dockets, so positions don’t vary with whoever happens to be drafting – and contradictions between matters get caught in drafting instead of surfacing in deposition.

Plaintiff firms answer carrier boilerplate once and reuse it everywhere, reclaiming unbillable hours spent re-drafting responses to the same template discovery in every case.

In-house legal departments encode corporate positions once and see them enforced across every matter and every outside firm to combat impeachable response variance or, at worst, bad law.

Growing firms use playbooks to onboard: new associates draft from the firm’s tested language on day one, and partner review becomes reviewing rather than rewriting.

Every playbook entry carries its provenance (who added it, when it was last used, and how many times) so when a position changes, firms know exactly what the prior language said and where it has been asserted. The playbook library is searchable and filterable by document type, client, case type, and jurisdiction.

“Preparing discovery responses takes much less time and we are able to ensure consistency throughout the firm with respect to objections and updates in the law,” said Eileen Booth, Partner at Jacobsen & McElroy, a Briefpoint customer.

Discovery Playbooks is included in every Briefpoint plan at no additional cost and is live now for all Briefpoint accounts. A 60-second demonstration video is available at briefpoint.ai/discovery-playbooks.
