The company formerly known as AffiniPay continues its evolution under the 8am brand, today announcing the expansion of its LawPay payments platform into what it says is a complete financial management solution for law firms.

The expanded 8am LawPay now unites payments, invoicing, time tracking, expense management and financial reporting into a single workspace, aiming to address what the company says are law firms’ most persistent operational headaches: fee collection, expense tracking and the friction created by managing these tasks across multiple disconnected systems.

“Financial complexity and cash flow constraints have quickly become serious operational risks for law firms,” said Leslie Witt, chief product officer at 8am. “8am LawPay enables our customers to take control of their finances and connect the everyday, operational tasks that drive their business forward.”

Smart Spend and Expense Management

A centerpiece of the expanded platform is 8am Smart Spend for LawPay, the company’s automated expense management product powered by the 8am Visa Business Card (which is issued by Emprise Bank).

When attorneys or staff use the card, expense details and receipts are automatically recorded and linked to the relevant client invoices. That eliminates what has traditionally been a manual reconciliation process and helping ensure that reimbursable costs don’t slip through the cracks.

Beyond Smart Spend, the enhanced LawPay platform includes centralized billing and payments from a single workspace, time and expense tracking designed to capture billable hours and costs as they occur, matter-specific trust accounting with IOLTA compliance, and real-time reporting dashboards providing visibility into cash flow, deposits, and trust balances.

“What used to be a monthly reconciliation nightmare is now a seamless process,” said Kathleen Gasparian, an immigration attorney at Gasparian Spivey Immigration, in a statement provided by 8am. “With 8am LawPay, expenses are automatically tied to matters so nothing gets lost and everything is ready for billing.”

The Bigger Picture

The announcement reflects 8am’s broader strategy of building out integrated practice management and financial tools across its portfolio, which also includes MyCase, CasePeer and DocketWise.

By consolidating financial workflows that firms have historically managed through multiple tools, 8am is positioning LawPay as more than a payments processor, but potentially the financial backbone of a law practice.

AffiniPay announced its rebranding as 8am in August 2025. The purpose was to better reflect its identity as it had evolved from its origins as a payments processor to a comprehensive suite of products for legal, accounting, and other professional services firms.

The Austin-based company’s brands include LawPay, MyCase, CasePeer, DocketWise and CPACharge.
