‘Cascade’ will help lawyers avoid costly mistakes and minimise risk
12th August, London: Definely, an AI-powered legal tech company that enables lawyers to efficiently and accurately review complex contracts, has launched ‘Cascade’, a first-of-its-kind solution. The product detects and tracks the ripple effects of changes across entire contracts, helping improve document quality, reduce risk, and streamline drafting and review workflows.
Whilst players in the legal tech market have produced numerous tools for contract analysis, no company has successfully built a tool that can understand the knock-on effects of changes, until now. ‘Cascade’ represents the first AI-powered solution capable of identifying first, second, and third-order knock-on effects from any contract modification, addressing a critical gap that has forced lawyers to spend 40-60% of their time on manual review.
Built on top of Definely’s existing Agentic Framework technology and their Draft product, which analyses the structure and relationships within contracts, ‘Cascade’ leverages sophisticated embedding technology & Large Language Models to rapidly detect semantic and structural consequences of an edit to a contract, pinpointing precisely where other language adjustments are needed across the rest of the contract, significantly reducing the risk of missing important consequences.
The tool integrates seamlessly into lawyers’ existing workflows within Microsoft Word, extracting all identified changes into a consolidated view. Users can also interrogate the system’s findings using natural language queries, asking in the same intuitive way they would approach the analysis manually, but with dramatically improved speed and accuracy.
Many existing market players offer lawyers new technologies, and they hope to identify and co-build solutions that address their specific workflows. However, the launch of ‘Cascade’ aligns with Definely’s strategy of providing solutions that solve for lawyers’ existing workflow challenges out of the box, increasing the quality and efficiency of using Gen AI products and the overall value to a law firm or in-house legal department.
Feargus MacDaeid, Co-founder and Chief Strategy Officer of Definely, says, “Cascade is the next step for lawyers when it comes to having the right tools for high-value and complex work. Unlike conventional tools that barely scratch the surface, Cascade reveals up to three levels of impact from a single change. Cascade marks an exciting advancement in Definely’s product suite, underscoring our commitment to delivering best-in-class solutions for our in-house and private practice customers.”
Sam Dixon, Chief Innovation Officer WBD UK, says, “I’ve worked closely with the Cascade team throughout the product’s development and iteration. Their innovative approach to solving this challenge continues to impress and surprise me.”
HaEun Yoon, AI Product Manager at Definely, says: “Our new product integrates seamlessly into the wider Definely tool suite, allowing lawyers to build upon their arsenal of tools to increase confidence and precision when working on high-stakes contracts. Cascade de-risks the drafting process, ensuring that lawyers never miss a critical dependency, which could result in financial losses and damage to their firm’s reputation. We look forward to continuing to innovate and bringing new solutions to the market.”
