In its fourth acquisition, Alt Legal, the cloud-based trademark docketing software company, has acquired the docketing business and customers TM Cloud, a competing provider of trademark and IP docketing software.

With TM Cloud having customers both throughout the United States and globally in Europe, Africa and Australia, the acquisition enables Alt Legal to grow its base of customers.

Customers of TM Cloud were notified of the acquisition this morning, and Alt Legal will now begin migrating them to its platform.

Alt Legal founder and CEO Nehal Madhani told me that he plans to personally call every TM Cloud customer to discuss the transition and answer any questions they may have.

TM Cloud’s customers will see no changes in their pricing through the end of the year, and will also be given free access to Alt Legal’s Trademark Protection products, which monitor customers’ trademarks and alert them to potential infringements.

Alt Legal will also provide free, unlimited training sessions and customer support, Madhani said.

After the end of the year, Madhani said, he will work with customers on an individual basis “to make sure the pricing makes sense for them.”

This is Alt Legal’s fourth acquisition. Last year, it acquired the §2(d) Citation Watch business owned by Canadian company Towergate Software. In 2019, it acquired the trademark docketing software business of MarkTend and also, in a previously unannounced acquisition, it purchased the trademark docketing business of Name Warden.

“Our mission is to make the lives of trademark professionals easier,” Madhani said. “We’re thrilled to welcome TM Cloud customers to Alt Legal and are confident that they will appreciate our enhanced software capabilities and user experience, amazing customer support, and the additional value we provide through the Alt Legal Community and free resources, CLE webinars, and more.”

Following the acquisition, TM Cloud will shut down its docketing product. Lucinda Stevenson, TM Cloud’s CEO, said that she is excited to transition her  customers to Alt Legal.

“Renowned for its customer-centric approach, Alt Legal will provide our customers with advanced automation and a commitment to innovation and an ever-evolving product,” Stevenson said. “They will also be welcomed into the Alt Legal Community, a global network of thousands of trademark professionals eager to share knowledge and resources.”

Stevenson will not be joining Alt Legal. The cofounder of TM Cloud, Louis Stevenson, retired earlier this year.

Alt Legal, which was a participant in the 2017 first-ever ABA Techshow Startup Alley that I organize, says that over the past three years, it has achieved the fastest pace of development in its history, resulting in the launch of multiple trademark monitoring products, automated international trademark docketing capabilities, advanced calendar integrations, and more.
