7 in 10 lawyers at law firms work solo or in firms of 10 or fewer, where the enterprise AI plans large firms use to protect client confidentiality are largely out of reach.
MIAMI, FL | October 23, 2026. Sprintfour Technologies today announced the public launch of Conseal, a desktop application for Windows and macOS that detects and removes sensitive information entirely on the user’s own computer, both in documents and in real time as users type in any application. Conseal lets lawyers redact or anonymize client details before sharing them with AI tools such as ChatGPT and Claude, and the data never leaves their device.
Small Firms, Same Obligations
AI tools have made it easy to paste a client file into a chat window. For lawyers, that convenience runs straight into the duty of confidentiality. ABA Model Rule 1.6(c) requires lawyers to make reasonable efforts to prevent unauthorized disclosure of client information, and ABA Formal Opinion 512 asks lawyers to weigh the disclosure risk before entering client information into generative AI tools. That responsibility extends to the paralegals and staff who handle client documents every day, since Model Rule 5.3 makes lawyers accountable for how their team handles client information.
Most of the lawyers facing this question work at small firms. According to American Bar Association data, 7 in 10 lawyers at law firms work solo or in firms of 10 or fewer, roughly 700,000 attorneys. They answer to the same rules as Big Law, but without an enterprise security team behind them, and the enterprise AI plans and private deployments that large firms rely on are largely out of their reach.
Data masking and de-identification tools were built for enterprises. The small business tools that exist are mostly redaction tools that support only a few file formats, whether cloud or local. Tools that run completely on the user’s device and anonymize data in a way that preserves its meaning for AI are still a gap in the market. Conseal fills that gap. It is built around the individual practitioner, letting lawyers mask and de-identify client data before sharing it with external AI.
“I ran into this problem while building another AI tool,” said Ash Malepati, founder and CEO of Sprintfour. “Professionals wanted to use it, but they didn’t trust uploading confidential client information to a third-party AI, and they were right to. Stripping out identifying details by hand took hours, and every alternative either sent data to a third-party cloud, missed too much, or was limited to redaction in a few formats. We designed Conseal from the bottom up, putting the technology in the hands of each individual, right on their own computer. We’re starting in the legal industry because that’s where we heard the need the loudest.”
How Conseal Works
Conseal runs lightweight AI models directly on the user’s computer. Detection, redaction and anonymization all happen locally. The app connects to the internet only to validate the license and check for updates, and never transmits document content or anything users type.
Conseal includes:
- Redact: permanently removes sensitive information for court filings and discovery productions. Lawyers who mark redactions item by item in Adobe Acrobat today can cut that work from hours to minutes.
- Anonymize: replaces sensitive details with consistent labels such as [PERSON_1], so AI tools can still follow the document. The originals can be restored later from a mapping file kept on the user’s device.
- Fast Mode and Intelligent Mode for Documents: a single-pass scan for speed, or a two-step scan the user can direct for more complex documents.
- Live Detect: works on text wherever the user types, in any application, including the ChatGPT and Claude desktop apps. Conseal lights up when it finds private information, replaces it with labels in one click, and puts the original values back when the user is done.
- Broad file support: works with plain text, PDF, Word, Excel and CSV files.
Conseal is designed as a first line of defense that cuts manual review time, with the user reviewing results before sharing.
Availability
Conseal is available now for Windows and macOS at conseal.ai. Many redaction tools charge per page, cap documents per month, or work only with PDFs, and they only allow blacking out sensitive details, so the context of who did what to whom is lost. Conseal lets users choose between blackout redaction and anonymization with labels that preserve the meaning of the information. It does all of this in one plan at $29.99 per device per month, with every feature included and no document or page limits. It works the same for a solo practice, a small firm or an enterprise team. Private deployments on the firm’s own servers are available on request for added speed.
