Two University of Chicago computer science graduates who launched a software company to help public defenders analyze crucial data ahead of trial have been named to the Forbes 30 Under 30 list for 2021.

The cofounders of JusticeText, CEO Devshi Mehrotra and CTO Leslie Jones-Dove, both 23, have been named to the list in the Social Impact category.

Their software, designed to expedite pretrial preparation for public defenders, automatically generates transcriptions of audiovisual evidence such as body camera footage, interrogation videos, courtroom proceedings, and jail calls.

According to Forbes, the company, founded last year, is currently piloting its software with public defense agencies in Houston, Cincinnati, Washington, D.C., and Queens, and has raised funding from 500 Startups among others.

In September, JusticeText was named both grand prize winner and audience favorite at Duke Law Tech Lab’s Demo Day.
